HCLG Committee to hear from Housing and Homelessness Minister on private rented sector and draft Tenant Fees Bill – Monday 26 February at 4pm

The Housing, Communities and Local Government Committee is to hear from Minister for Housing and Homelessness Heather Wheeler MP in the final oral evidence session of the Private Rented Sector (PRS) inquiry.

The Committee will also use the session to continue its pre-legislative scrutiny of the proposed ban on letting fees imposed on tenants.

The PRS inquiry is focusing on the role of councils in the provision and regulation of private rented accommodation while the Committee is examining the Government’s draft Tenant Fees Bill ahead of its passage through Parliament.

The Committee has been taking evidence from local authorities, academics and landlord and tenant groups on the role of councils in the private rented sector, licensing schemes and whether there are sufficient powers to deal with bad practices and MPs are likely to want to put some of the points raised to the Minister.

Ms Wheeler will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.
