If the best this Government can do is promise Britain

GMB, Britain's general union, has responded to
a speech by Brexit Secretary on workers rights after Britain
leaves the EU. [1]
Tim Roache, GMB General Secretary,
said:
“If the best this Government can do is promise
Britain will not turn into a 'Mad Max' nightmare - it’s no
wonder people are worried about their post-Brexit
lives.
“Since 2010, the Conservatives have repeatedly
chiseled away at vital protections and workplace justice
describing them as ‘red tape’ or ‘a burden’ on
business.
“ has even made ministers of
people who think British workers ‘are among the worst idlers in
the world’. [2]
“How on earth can we rely on them to safeguard
workers’ rights?
“Yet the Brexit Secretary’s whole pitch today
seems to be ‘trust us’.
“The Government must make good on their promise
to maintain and enhance workers’ rights after Brexit by making a
legal commitment to mirror existing and future European workplace
rights so that workers in Britain aren't left
behind.
“But the truth is for some Tories MPs,
shredding British workers’ hard won employment rights is what
gets them up in the morning and was the very reason they
campaigned for Brexit.”
