The number of electric cars in London has grown significantly in
the last five years. There are 10,000 electric cars registered in
London – ten times as many as in 2012 – and 3,000 charging
points.[2] However, is growth in electric car demand
outstripping the supply of charging points?
Can the spread of charging points, their locations and
accessibility be improved to encourage more Londoners to go
electric?
Tomorrow, the London
Assembly Environment Committee will
discuss electric car charging in London and the barriers to the
take-up of electric cars, especially for people who don’t have
their own garage or drive way. The Committee will also discuss
how car clubs can contribute, whether or not we have enough
charging points for zero-emission black cabs and the need for
technicians skilled in electric vehicles to service and repair
them.
