The Education Committee is to hear from the Minister for the
School System, the National Schools Commissioner and other
schools commissioners in the latest of its accountability
hearings.
Minister will be joined by National
Schools Commissioner Sir David Carter and two regional schools
commissioners.
The Committee will be using the session to examine the expanding
role and remit of schools commissioners and their relationship
with Ofsted as well as follow up on the Government’s response to
the previous Committee’s report on multi-academy trusts.
Members are also expected to ask about the role of the Department
and the Education and Skills Funding Agency in financial
oversight of trusts.
Questions could also be raised about the salaries of academy
trust chief executives, the process of rebrokering schools from
trusts and the role of local authorities in the academy
system.
The session is the latest in the Committee’s series of
accountability hearings, which has previously featured the
Children’s Commissioner for England and the Chief Inspector of
Schools.
