NI Affairs Committee hears from representatives of the Government of Gibraltar in border inquiry

Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory and currently a member of the European Union, having joined along with the UK in 1973. It shares a disputed land border with neighbouring EU member Spain. It is outside the customs union and Schengen Area.

Gibraltar is heavily reliant on cross-border traffic, with 95% of goods and 40% of the workforce entering the territory via the border. The session will look at how Gibraltar’s relationship with the EU has shaped its border with Spain and how the political dimension of a disputed border can affect its day-today operation.
