, who was chairman of the APPG
in the last parliament (and is expected to continue in the same
role), said there was a big push to improve the quality and
quantity of clinical leadership in the UK which was less pervasive
than in other major health economies.
"There is good evidence that this deficit is having an adverse
effect on health outcomes," he said. "The APPG is to strike up a
conversation among parliamentarians around this."
He added that there was a general misconception - amongst doctors
and the public - that having clinicians as managers meant doctors
would spend too much time on paper-pushing. "There is a big
difference between administrative work and management," he
said.
Officers of the group before the last election
were: , , Sir and (see Note

Notes
1. ParliamentToday has created a group in the Members Lobby for the
Clinical
Leadership and Management APPG. This will enable users at
the AMRC to view the profiles of APPG members, send them emails
collectively or individually and to make notes about them (for
example, the minutes/report from tomorrow's meeting).
2. Julie Moore is a graduate nurse who worked in clinical practice
before moving into management. After a variety of clinical,
management and director posts, she was appointed as Chief Executive
of University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) in 2006. In October 2015
she was appointed Interim Chief Executive of Heart of England NHS
Foundation Trust (as well as remaining Chief Executive of UHB), to
help lead it out of clinical and financial difficulties.
