Committee to take evidence on building consensus on immigration policy

The Home Affairs Committee in the last Parliament had embarked on a wide-ranging inquiry which was assessing whether it is possible to build greater consensus on immigration policy and if so what key principles that policy would need to satisfy.

This session is a continuation of that work. The Committee will hear evidence from witnesses who have carried out research in this area. The issues to be covered in the session are likely to include:

• ·         Public opinion on current immigration policy
• ·         What future immigration policy options are most likely to receive widespread public support
• ·         Local impacts of immigration and options for mitigation
• ·         Steps to improve trust in immigration data and policy
