Committees hear from labour market enforcement chief on protecting workers’ rights in the gig economy  - Wednesday 10.30am

Following Matthew Taylor’s comments on beefing up enforcement of workers’ rights in the gig economy, backed by heftier fines, in evidence in our inquiry into Taylor Review of modern working practices,  the Work and Pensions and BEIS Committees take evidence jointly again from Sir David Metcalf, who was appointed earlier this year as the first Director of Labour Market Enforcement.

Sir David was previously a founding member of the Low Pay Commission, and has been vocal in the press vowing to jail rogue bosses and investigate failing industries, in response to workplace scandals like the one exposed by the BEIS Committee at Sports Direct. The Committees are also currently seeking answers from Hermes on alleged underpayment for courier deliveries.
