remember the role of special constables and remember that they are
an essential part of the police family...
...A third of my constituency is within the Gwent police force
area, and its records show that 103 police officers have been
assaulted since 2015, an average of one a week, 24 of which were
assaults on detention staff in custody suites. The larger part of
my constituency lies in the South
Wales Police area, and there, on average, nine officers
are assaulted in any given week. Assaults often mean that officers
are absent from their duties, which means that police resources are
further depleted at a time when police numbers are significantly
down owing to cuts...
