The Home Affairs Committee in the last Parliament had embarked on
a wide-ranging inquiry which was assessing whether it is possible
to build greater consensus on immigration policy and if so what
key principles would that policy need to satisfy.
This inquiry will now be resumed, beginning with oral evidence on
31 October.
Terms of reference
The Committee now calls for written evidence. Written evidence is
invited on the following issues:
- · What
approaches the Government might adopt to build consensus on how
future immigration to the UK should be dealt with?
- · What
key principles would an immigration policy need to satisfy in
order to achieve consensus?
The Committee will examine proposals for what a post-Brexit
immigration system could look like when it considers the
Government’s White Paper on Immigration which is expected to be
published before the end of the year.
Submitting written evidence
Evidence submitted to the previous Committee’s inquiry on
immigration has been published on the inquiry page of
the Committee’s website and will be considered as part of this
inquiry. Those who submitted evidence to that inquiry are welcome
to submit updated evidence should they wish to do so.
The deadline for submissions is Monday 6
November. Written evidence should be submitted
online via the new inquiry
page on the Committee’s website. Guidance on submitting
evidence is set out below.
If submitting evidence in this way is difficult for you, you can
email it to the Committee instead using this
address homeaffcom@parliament.uk
Your submission needs to be in Word format and
please try to avoid using colour type or logos.
Submissions should not exceed 3,000 words – and short submissions
are welcome.
