Abuse of Palestinian prisoners must end - Anderson

Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson has called for international action to stop the abuse of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.

Martina Anderson said:

"Today on International Day in Support of Victims of Torture it is important that the abuse of Palestinian political prisoners in Israeli jails is highlighted.

"Palestinians who are arrested and detained by the Israeli military are regularly subjected to abuse and torture .

"Dozens of Palestinian have died in Israeli jails over the years as a result of abuse.

"The international community have a responsibility to act to stop this appalling torture and abuse of prisoners and to call for the release of Palestinian political prisoners.

"No prisoners should be subjected to torture and it is high time international action was taken against Israel to end its torture of those it imprisons."
