Through the Gate is damning, says Burgon

Richard Burgon MP, Shadow Justice Secretary, commenting on the joint inspectorate report on resettlement services for prisoners serving 12 months or more, said:

“The conclusion that Through the Gate services could stop tomorrow and it would make no difference is damning and points to a complete failure of the Tories’ reckless part-privatisation of probation.

“Public safety is being put at risk because ex-offenders aren’t getting the support, supervision and rehabilitation they need.

“The Tories need to set out in the Queen’s Speech exactly how they intend to repair the damage they have caused.

“They could begin by matching Labour’s pledge to review community rehabilitation companies.”
