will launch a fresh drive to
support military veterans if she becomes Prime Minister after 8
June.
As our nation goes forward together, with ’s plan for a stronger Britain
and a prosperous future, the Conservative and Unionist Party
manifesto commits to:
The introduction of a one year holiday on Employer National
Insurance Contributions for firms hiring service personnel after
they leave service.
Help for veterans to start new careers by ensuring that the
skills and qualifications they gained in service are recognised
by civilian employers.
And a Veterans Board in the Cabinet Office to ensure better
co-ordination of government services to veterans, including
housing, employment and mental health services.
said:
“We owe a debt of gratitude to those who make sacrifices to keep
us safe. Under my leadership we will end the injustice of
servicemen and women being let down by the society they have
protected. The choice on June 8th could not be more clear: strong
backing for our armed forces and those who serve in them under me
and my Conservative team, or , who shamefully spent decades
campaigning to disband our armed forces.”
The Conservative Party Manifesto gives unequivocal backing for
our armed forces by committing to maintain and strengthen the
Armed Forces Covenant, establishing new bodies to address legacy
issues in Northern Ireland, that do not unfairly focus on former
members of the Armed Forces, and protecting them from persistent
legal claims by introducing a Law of Armed Conflict, which
includes the Geneva Convention and UK Service Law, not the
European Court of Human Rights.

Notes to Editors
· We will support former members of the armed forces, who were
willing to risk their lives for us, as they move into civilian
life. We will maintain and strengthen the Armed Forces Covenant.
We will help veterans to start new careers by ensuring that the
skills and qualifications they gained in service are recognised
by civilian employers and by introducing a one year holiday on
Employer National Insurance Contributions for firms hiring
service personnel after they leave service.
· The Royal British Legion have found that, compared to working
age men, veterans are less likely to be in full time work than
the general population (57% vs 68%); less likely to be in part
time work (6% vs 9%); and nearly twice as likely to be unemployed
(11% vs 6%).
