Education Committee - Publication of report on Primary assessment

The Education Committee publishes its Eleventh Report of Session 2016-17, Primary assessment (HC 682), at 00.01am on Monday 1 May 2017. The Committee’s inquiry scrutinised Government reforms to primary assessment and their impact on teaching and learning in primary schools, as well as investigating the debates over the benefits and drawbacks of testing at primary school. The Committee also examined the wider effects of assessment on primary schools, and possible next steps for Government policy.

The report is published a week ahead of children around the country taking SATs in English and maths.

During the course of its inquiry the Committee took evidence from teachers and headteachers, teaching organisations, academics and researchers, and representatives of Ofsted, Ofqual and the Department for Education’s Minister for School Standards, Nick Gibb MP.
