Comments by European Parliament President, Antonio Tajani, on meeting with Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas

Achieving peace in Middle East is of crucial importance for the region and for the whole world. This was the main message to come out of today´s meeting between European Parliament President, Antonio Tajani, and Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas.

President Tajani stressed that peace and stability will help to reduce migration flows and fight fundamentalist and radicalisation inside and outside Europe.

To this end it is important to use all tools at our disposal, including economic and parliamentary diplomacy. Peace is the only solution against terrorism.

The European Parliament has consistently expressed support for a two-state solution based on the 1967 borders, a secure State of Israel alongside an independent, democratic, contiguous and viable Palestinian State. Both countries living side by side in peace and security.
