Angela Rayner MP, Labour’s Shadow Secretary of State for Education, commenting on an Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) report showing that the new schools funding formula could imply further cuts to per-pupil spending, said:

“This report shows that the Tories’ so called fair funding formula isn’t fair and it isn’t funded.”

“Reckless Tory cuts to school funding are risking the life chances of a generation of children. As budget cuts bite, head teachers are facing impossible choices, like making teachers redundant, sacking support staff, or cutting the curriculum."

“While the principle of a fairer funding formula is the right one, this shows the dangerous cliff-edge the government has created for our schools, and they must take action to ensure that they do not go toppling over the edge.”
