Lords committee to publish report on driverless cars

The House of Lords Science and Technology Committee will publish its report Connected and Autonomous Vehicles: The future? on Wednesday 15 March. The report sets out recommendations for the Government to ensure the UK can benefit from this rapidly developing technology.

The report considers the potential applications for autonomous vehicles in the marine, road and agricultural sectors, whilst also addressing the important issues surrounding their deployment. These include the extent to which the UK’s infrastructure will have to change as well as the potential socio-economic benefits.

Over the course of the inquiry, the Committee heard evidence from Government Ministers John Hayes MP, Minister of State, Department for Transport and Nick Hurd MP, Minister of State, Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. Transport authorities, Highways England and Transport for London were also amongst the witnesses as well as leading CAV research programmes including the Greenwich GATEway project and the Venturer driverless car project.
