Local authorities are ‘the forgotten cousins’ of public expenditure, as the financial crisis facing social care gathers pace, Unite, the country’s largest union, said today (Monday 6 March).   Unite, which has 80,000 members in local government, said that the chancellor Philip Hammond needs to address the estimated £2.6 billion shortfall in local authority social care provision, as he prepares to deliver his first budget on Wednesday (8 March)....Request free trial
