Tuesday 28 February 2017 at 09.30am
The impact of Brexit on the UK’s nuclear industry and wider
investor confidence in the energy sector will be the focus of a
public session of the Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy
(BEIS) Committee. The session is part of the Committee’s inquiry,
Leaving the EU: energy and climate negotiation priorities, and
can be watched live and on demand at Parliamentlive.tv
The Committee will examine the implications of the UK’s decision
to withdraw from the European Atomic Energy Community (Euratom)
as a result of the vote to leave the European Union, including
what it means for research and development and for future
investment in nuclear power. MPs will hear from organisations
including the Nuclear Industry Association and Office for Nuclear
Regulation.
Looking at the impacts of Brexit more broadly, the Committee will
then ask representatives of large international banks and
investment firms whether there have been any immediate
implications following the referendum for securing previously
anticipated investment in energy infrastructure. The Committee
will also examine whether the Government is doing enough to
support investor confidence.
