It’s time for the Chancellor to stop listening and start acting - Long-Bailey and Esterson

Rebecca Long-Bailey MP, Labour’s Shadow Secretary of State for Business, commenting on the Government’s business rate chaos, said:

“The fantasy figures given to MPs about business rates increases by the previous Business Secretary show just how dismissive this Government is of the burdens on small businesses. 

“The Government need to commit to transitional relief to businesses facing astronomical increases in their rates now – otherwise our high streets will be decimated. It’s time for the Chancellor to stop listening and start acting.”  

Bill Esterson MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Business, said:

"It is becoming increasingly clear that the Conservative government's revaluation of business rates is making thousands of smaller businesses worse off. While online giants like Amazon are seeing their business rates cut, many smaller, high street retailers face a massive hike in their rates.

"Businesses up and down the country have been let down by the Conservatives. Labour is calling for a complete overhaul of business taxation to create the conditions for enterprises of all sizes to prosper."
