Schools Minister MP will be questioned on the
Government’s planned introduction of a new national funding
formula at a public session of the Education Committee.
The Committee will ask Mr Gibb about the implementation of the
new formula, the Government’s consultation on the schools funding
reform and the Department for Education’s (DfE) capacity to
deliver the change. The Minister will also face questions about
the closely-related subject of financial sustainability of
schools.
The new formula seeks to introduce greater consistency between
how different areas are funded and a reduction of the role of
local authorities in directing money to schools. The Government’s
consultation has included a first stage, which ran from March to
April last year. A second stage began in December and will end
this March.
Mr Gibb will appear alongside the DfE’s Director of Education
Funding, Tom Goldman. The Committee will also hear from Luke
Sibieta, Programme Director at the Institute for Fiscal Studies,
and Natalie Perera, Executive Director at the Education Policy
Institute.
