The Scottish Government is working with Inverclyde Council to
attract investment, create jobs and build on the region's proud
industrial heritage, First Minister has said.
Mr Swinney was speaking after a series of engagements across
Inverclyde, including meetings with local representatives and
visits to businesses and community organisations that have
benefited from Scottish Government support.
He said:
"Inverclyde has a proud heritage as an industrial powerhouse and
strong foundations for growth.
Today I have seen first-hand the talent, ambition and potential
that exists across Inverclyde, which will play a vital role in
the area's future success.
"That is why the Scottish Government has provided more than £15
million for regeneration projects, community organisations and
services in Inverclyde since 2014, alongside £18 million for
Inverclyde through the Glasgow City Region Deal.
"We want to harness the strengths of Inverclyde by continuing to
support regeneration projects across Inverclyde. We are also
working with the council and local partners to attract
investment, create jobs and unlock new opportunities, including
for the young people who will help shape Inverclyde's future.
By continuing to work in partnership, I know we can build on that
investment and ensure Inverclyde fulfils its potential.
Background
While in Inverclyde, the First Minister undertook:
- a meeting with local representatives including the Leader and
Chief Executive of Inverclyde Council
- a visit to Craigend Resource Centre to see how Scottish
Government regeneration funding is supporting local people
- a tour of Inchgreen dock and MV Glen Rosa
- visits to Ferguson Marine, CalMac and CMAL to meet staff
