Acute flaccid paralysis or myelitis (AFP/M) not explained by a non-infectious cause became notifiable in England in April 2025. AFP/M surveillance is an essential component of England's polio eradication programme and is aligned with the GPEI. Surveillance supports the timely investigation of AFP/M cases to exclude poliovirus as a cause and to identify other infectious causes of neurological disease.

Reports are produced by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) and include data for England from 2018 onwards and will be updated annually.
