Today's Cabinet reflected a sense of a united team, a new sense
of energy and a second chance at a first impression.
The Prime Minister opened by congratulating Cabinet on their
appointments, saying they were a good team from all backgrounds
that reflected the country they served.
He said it was vital the Cabinet now pulled together in the same
direction, along with their departments and the Civil Service to
deliver.
The Prime Minister said people across Britain were finding life
hard and ministers should think every day about what they could
do to take a little bit of pressure off.
The Prime Minister added this government needed to be a cost of
living one. He said today's announcement showed the government
was prepared to reprioritise to reduce the pressure and deliver
on tackling the cost of living.
The Chancellor then reiterated that reprioritisation would allow
the government to make life more affordable for people whilst
maintaining fiscal discipline.
He said fiscal credibility gave the economic stability for growth
and national security of our society.
The Prime Minister said the country needed stability and to
create a platform to start to deliver.
He said it was important to make sure people could see the steps
the government was taking towards its bigger, ten-year
vision.
Turning to No10 North, the Prime Minister said it was not a
gimmick. He said the time for resisting devolution was over and
it was very clear this was the direction the government was
heading in, to speed up growth and delivery.
This, he said, was the urgent principle behind this
government.
The Prime Minister then opened the discussion to other ministers,
including the Foreign Secretary, CDL, Defence Secretary,
Education Secretary, Home Secretary and Business Secretary,
saying he wanted to hear from as many colleagues as time
allowed.
Topics covered included the importance of working as a team and
increasing the pace in government decision-making.
The Prime Minister also welcomed the AI Minister to Cabinet,
saying AI was relevant to every single department and a really
important statement of the government's commitment to the
technology industry.
The Prime Minister brought Cabinet to an end by thanking
colleagues for their contributions.
He said each Cabinet minister had his backing to be bold and
urged them to tell the government's story to the nation with
him.
The Prime Minister said he was proud to have seen his Cabinet
receive their seals of office and to be going out into the tunnel
alongside him and on to the pitch as one team.
