The SNP has said that independence is essential to secure the
future of the North East of Scotland after a new report
highlighted that 18,000 jobs could be lost in the next
decade.
A new report from the Energy Transition Institute is warning that
Aberdeen is in a make or break period with up to 1,600 offshore
energy jobs at risk every year between now and 2035.
This report comes on the same day that EY analysis has shown that
Aberdeen has fallen down the rankings for UK cities receiving
Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) after recording only 5 investment
projects in the last year down significantly on the year before.
A decline which the report blames on continued uncertainty in the
future of the North Sea.
Despite this the UK Labour government continues to inflict the
hated tax on Scotland's energy and, due to their abject failures,
are leading us on a path where Scotland's energy could be in
the hands of .
Commenting, SNP MSP for Aberdeen Central said:
For decades now consecutive Westminster governments have ripped
off Scotland's energy wealth yet now they won't lift a finger to
secure the future of the North East.
Aberdeen is losing out on investment, losing out on jobs and
losing out on a positive future that will be Labours legacy
unless Andy changes course.
The reality though is if we continue to allow Westminster
politicians control over our own energy the same Westminster
injustice will be inflicted on Aberdeen's future as it was in
Aberdeen's past.
Report after report shows just how damaging the UK government's
actions have been independence is essential.
With independence Scotland's energy wealth would finally benefit
the people of Aberdeen and the whole of our country.
