This public evidence session is part of the committee's inquiry
on the relationship between young people and the built
environment. It will be held in Committee Room 4 of the House of
Lords and streamed live on Parliament TV.
Topics likely to be covered in this session include:
- How the Government and the built environment sector can best
ensure that current planning policy adequately meets the broader
needs of children and young people.
- How the Government will ensure that children and young
people's views are embedded in local planning and wider
place-based decision-making, including through Youth Councils,
planning policy, or other formal tools or duties.
- What levers, such as social value or procurement frameworks,
the Government can use to encourage stronger engagement with
children and young people in the design and delivery of places.
- How the Government will ensure that engagement with children
and young people is meaningful rather than tokenistic, and takes
place across the country rather than being concentrated in London
and the South East.
- What the Government will do to ensure that neighbourhoods,
public spaces and youth provision make children and young people
feel safe, welcome and able to participate in community life.
