The Justice Committee will question the Minister for Courts and
Legal Services and Chief Executive of the
Legal Aid Agency Jane Harbottle during the fifth and final
evidence session of its inquiry on Access to Justice.
MPs on the cross-party committee, chaired by Labour MP , will examine the barriers
to access to justice, what progress is being made by Government
to address them and explore where further reform or investment is
required.
Discussion is likely to focus on the operation of the legal aid
system, including financial
eligibility, legal aid deserts and the LAA cyber-attack and the
performance of their digital systems. The session will also cover
the wider legal advice sector, online legal information and AI,
legal services regulation, and how access to justice is funded.
This inquiry considers how the provision of legal advice and
representation has developed in response to the restrictions on
the provision of legal aid. It focuses on the scope for future
innovation in the nature of services, funding, regulation and
technology to support effective access to justice in England and
Wales.
