From 10:15 on Tuesday 2 June the House of Lords Science and Technology
Committee continues
its inquiry into innovation in the NHS, with a
particular focus on personalised medicine and the use of
artificial intelligence.
The Health Data Research Service
(HDRS), announced by the Government last year, aims to
create a single, secure gateway for accessing health and care
data. Currently, obtaining health data for research in the UK is
often slow and complex, with
researchers frequently waiting months or even years to
access the data they need. HDRS has been established to
address these challenges by streamlining access processes,
improving efficiency, and enabling faster, more effective
research.
This week, the Committee
will question the
leadership of the HDRS on their priorities for
the organisation including how HDRS will
treat the use of data for training AI, how will it bring
together data resources that already exist, how it
will manage commercial partnerships, and balance the tension
between the desire to realise economic benefit from the
UK's health data and concerns around privacy.
