Senior representatives of the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan
participated in a regional training workshop on clean electricity
transition. The workshop took place in Tashkent from 31 March to
3 April, with support from the British Embassy in Turkmenistan.
The workshop was delivered by leading UK technical experts and
academics under the Green Grids Initiative and was based on the
Electricity Transition Playbook. The Playbook is a practical
framework designed to support countries in planning and
implementing the shift to modern, low-carbon power systems.
The training strengthened participants' capacity to design and
deliver effective electricity transition strategies. It provided
a structured approach to identifying priority areas for reform,
developing actionable national plans, mobilising resources and
monitoring progress across key building blocks of the transition.
Participants benefited from:
- enhanced understanding of the technical, economic and policy
dimensions of electricity transition
- practical tools to support planning and implementation at
national level
- access to international expertise and best practices
- opportunities to exchange experience with regional peers
- integration into a global network of policymakers and experts
working on clean energy transitions
As electricity demand continues to grow across Central Asia,
strengthening transmission systems, improving energy security and
ensuring equitable access to clean power are becoming
increasingly important. The workshop addressed these challenges
and supported countries in navigating the complexities of the
transition.
The United Kingdom remains committed to supporting Central Asian
partners in modernising and decarbonising their electricity
systems, increasing the share of renewable energy, and advancing
sustainable economic development.
