On Tuesday 14 April from
11:00am the House of Lords European Affairs
Committee will
continue its new inquiry into dynamic alignment.
This week the Committee
will be exploring the way in which dynamic alignment
with areas of EU law operates in other countries, and
whether there are lessons from their experiences for the UK, as
it potentially prepares to undertake dynamic alignment
itself.
The Committee will be taking evidence
from the Ambassadors of two relevant countries: Norway, which
undertakes dynamic alignment as part of the European Economic
Area (EEA) Agreement with the
EU; and Switzerland, which
has recently reached a new package of agreements with the EU that
introduces dynamic alignment to their relationship.
From 11:00am the Committee will hear
from:
HE Tore Hattrem,
Norwegian Ambassador to the UK
HE Dominique Paravicini, Swiss
Ambassador to the UK
The evidence session will take
place in Committee Room 4, Palace of Westminster and will be
available to watch live from 11:00 or on demand
on Parliamentlive.tv.
Issues likely to be explored in the
session include:
-
Why these countries agreed to
undertake dynamic alignment
-
The way in which the process of
dynamic alignment works, including the role of
Parliament
-
The way in which these
countries seek to influence EU law through
‘decision-shaping', including the role of their Missions to the
EU
-
-
The relationship between these
countries' dynamic alignment with areas of EU law, and their
trade relations outside Europe
-
Lessons from these countries for the
UK
