Road Investment Strategy: we need better alternatives to driving says Campaign for Better Transport

Responding to the publication of the Government's Road Investment Strategy 3, Ben Plowden of Campaign for Better Transport said:

"Funding for the maintenance of existing roads is welcome, but the Government is also planning to spend billions on new and bigger roads. With energy insecurity increasing, and the climate crisis a growing reality, it should focus on radically improving public transport, walking, wheeling and cycling. The transition to electric vehicles is important, but it will be a slow and costly process, and will neither reduce traffic nor tackle its wider impacts. What we need is a step change in the availability and quality of public transport and active travel options, to give people real, attractive alternatives to driving."
