The House of Lords Numeracy for Life Committee continues its
inquiry on Thursday 26 March by taking evidence
from employers.
The session can be followed live or afterwards on Parliament
TV or in person in Committee Room 3, Palace
of Westminster from 10.50am.
Giving evidence will be:
Director of Human Resources, Severn Trent;
Head of Social Impact, Santander UK.
Members are expected to ask questions on:
- the impact of low numeracy from an employers' perspective,
both in terms of business productivity and growth, and employee
development;
- steps employers take to address low numeracy skills through
in-house training or signposting employees to external courses
and resources;
- how businesses assist and support customers and the wider
public in understanding the more complex numerical aspects of
their work;
- the value and perception of GCSE level maths and the
Functional Skills maths qualification;
- removing the requirement for adult apprentices to complete a
level 2 maths qualification;
- key drivers for employees to seek support with numeracy
skills;
- the role the Government and Skills England play in
prioritising numeracy.
The call for evidence for the inquiry is open until
Monday 27 April and can be found on the Committee's
website.
