Details
The energy digitalisation framework is a joint publication by the
government and Ofgem, delivering a commitment set out in the
clean flexibility
roadmap.
It provides clarity, coherence and direction to an energy
digitalisation landscape characterised by high levels of activity
but limited system-wide alignment, leading to fragmentation and
duplication.
In response to these challenges, the vision sets out a clear,
coordinated approach to digitalisation. It describes what a
digitalised energy system should look and feel like, the outcomes
it must deliver, the principles that should guide delivery, and a
long-term governance framework to embed this direction over time.
Two key features of this framework are:
- Introducing a digitalisation coordination function to provide
and maintain system-wide architectural coherence, common
standards, and alignment across the sector.
- Establishing a data domain model to simplify the current
landscape by grouping digitalisation activity into four
functional domains, each with clear responsibilities.
Together with clear, long‑term governance arrangements, these
measures provide a stable and coordinated direction for energy
digitalisation. They make it clear how systems and services fit
together, how individual initiatives contribute to the wider
ecosystem, and support the consistent delivery and scaling of
benefits for consumers and the energy system.
