Chancellor Rachel Reeves & Energy Secretary Ed Miliband met with petrol retailers and energy suppliers at 4pm today

• The Chancellor said that her priority was to make sure that motorists were getting the lowest price possible at the pump, which is why government had extended the fuel duty freeze to September, offering real direct savings to motorists.
• The Chancellor and the Energy Secretary highlighted previous investigations by the CMA had found issues with prices, most recently in December 2025, and welcomed the CMA's commitment to monitoring this further. 

• Attendees were in broad agreement that transparency helps consumers find the cheapest prices by boosting competition. The Chancellor and Energy Secretary highlighted the Government's fuel finder rollout is being accelerated, with over 90% of the market now covered, and there was agreement that firms would provide more up to date information and pricing at more sites. This would mean drivers can see, in real time, where the cheapest fuel is nearby. 

• The Energy Secretary said that industry had been reporting that fuel supply has been continuing across the UK as usual, which attendees agreed with. 
• Attendees agreed to continue working in the shared interest of motorists on this really important issue and to strengthen the Fuel Finder so consumers can see where to get the lowest price with more up to date information. 
• The Chancellor and Energy Secretary thanked attendees for coming and said all in attendance had shown they were keen to work together during challenging times to help customers and keep the country moving.
