, Reform UK's Deputy Leader
and Shadow Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Trade, has
appointed Simon Dudley as Reform UK's Spokesman on Housing and
Infrastructure. Dudley brings decades of experience in
housebuilding, regeneration and infrastructure finance.
As former Chair of Homes England and Chair of the Ebbsfleet
Development Corporation, he helped oversee the delivery of tens
of thousands of homes and major regeneration projects. He has
also spent 30 years in international banking and private equity,
starting his own business focused on infrastructure and energy
finance, before becoming a Managing Director at Citi.
As part of his new role, Dudley will lead an urgent review into
Britain's Building Crisis. The review will set out urgent reforms
to planning, housing delivery and national infrastructure, with a
bold focus on reducing planning costs and time, as well as
lowering the cost of housing and infrastructure delivery.
Reform UK's Spokesman on Housing and Infrastructure Simon
Dudley said:
“Britain faces a Building Crisis. Young people are locked out of
home ownership. Families are paying high rents. Businesses are
held back by a planning system that slows growth and blocks
investment.
“I have spent my career delivering homes and major regeneration
schemes. I know that with the right reforms we can move quickly
and at scale.
“Our urgent review will examine how to simplify planning,
accelerate infrastructure and unlock land for homes and jobs. We
will focus on practical steps that can be implemented fast.
“Reform is serious about growth. We are serious about restoring
common sense to planning. And we are serious about giving working
families the chance to own a home and build a secure future.”
Reform UK Deputy Leader and Shadow Business, Trade &
Energy Secretary MP said:
“Britain is not building enough homes, not building enough
infrastructure and not creating the conditions for businesses to
grow. The system is clogged by delay, over regulation and
absurdly high costs. This is all due to weak, inexperienced
leadership in such a vital activity.
“Simon Dudley has delivered at scale. He understands planning,
finance and regeneration. He knows how to get projects moving.
That is exactly what we need. This is essential to increase
growing and prosperity.
“Under Reform, we will get Britain building again, faster and at
better value. That means accelerating planning and incentivising
brownfield development. It means keeping smart safe regulation
and scrapping daft EU conceived rules that are blocking over
100,000 homes.
“We will back transport and infrastructure projects that deliver
real benefits for all, quicker and at lower cost. That means
bypasses, flyovers, roundabouts, buses, local rail and better
roads. The war on the motorist will end.”
