Words from the Prime Minister where he met sexual abuse victims
in Number 10 Downing Street yesterday.
The Prime Minister listened to three victim's stories about their
struggles waiting for justice ahead of today's 2nd
Reading of the Courts and Tribunals Bill, which seeks to deliver
faster and fairer justice for victims.
Prime Minister said:
“It is really important that you are in the centre of Government
working with us on this because we can't do this without you.
“I want you to have the opportunity to tell me your experience,
what you think should change, and it to just be a really frank
conversation.
“Don't hold back, the most important thing is that we get the
unvarnished version of this, what it is like, what needs to
change.
“Where things aren't right, it is your right to tell us. It is
our job then to do something about it.
“The reforms that are coming in are so important because I don't
feel I can have more conversations with women in particular who
have been subjected to violence against women and girls and leave
the system as it is.”
Speaking of his background as Chief Prosecutor the Prime Minister
went on to say:
“We made a number of really important changes to the criminal
justice system but we have got to go further.
“The reforms that I know you have been helping us with, that are
coming in, are so important.”
