In September 2024, the Government established the New Towns
Taskforce as an independent advisory panel to recommend sites and
approaches for a new generation of new towns.
Its final report, published in September 2025, identified 12
potential locations across England, including two within London –
Crews Hill and Chase Park and Thamesmead Waterfront – which
together could deliver up to 40,000 new homes.
The Taskforce stressed that major improvements to transport
infrastructure and clear governance arrangements would be
essential to delivery.
The London Assembly Planning and
Regeneration Committee is meeting
tomorrow to explore how these new towns will be
delivered in practice.
