the UK's mobile networks.
This call for evidence closes at
11:59pm on 21 April 2026
Call for evidence description
High-quality, secure and resilient mobile connectivity fuels
growth and innovation, bringing benefits to business
and people across the UK and provides essential
connectivity to our critical national infrastructure.
This government's ambition is for all populated areas to
have standalone 5G by 2030. This requires sustained investment by
industry, and the government acknowledges that rapid
technological change in addition to wider economic pressures has
meant industry has faced a challenging investment environment
over recent years.
This call for evidence will enable the government
to build a clear picture as to how the market is
changing and ensure that our policy and regulatory
framework supports investment,
innovation, competition and consumers, and does not act
as a barrier.
We would like to hear from a wide range of stakeholders on:
- the impact of technological and market developments on
investment, innovation, competition and consumers
- policy levers that could unlock further investment in mobile
networks
- the appropriate quality-of-service and level of
coverage needed to realise the full benefits of standalone 5G
- how government ensure the regulatory framework continues to
support the government's objectives in an evolving
market
