Protecting built heritage: MPs to question Heritage Minister and Government Chief Property Officer in final evidence session

Heritage Minister Baroness Twycross, Government Chief Property Officer Mark Chivers and Deputy Director for Heritage at DCMS Fazima Osborn appear before the Culture, Media and Sport Committee in the final session of its inquiry examining the importance of built heritage in the UK and the barriers to its preservation.

The session will examine how DCMS sets heritage policy and supports the sector, and how the Cabinet Office oversees the Government estate and coordinates heritage management across departments.

There could be questions on last month's announcements related to funding for cultural venuesand changes to funding for listed places of worship, as well as on the Government's policy on the use of historic assets for housing and the wider planning process, and how community involvement in local heritage sites could be strengthened.

The Committee is also likely to ask the panel about some of the issues raised in previous evidence sessions regarding matters such as managed decline, regulatory delays, skills shortages and the apprenticeship levy.
