Lords Conduct Committee publishes report on the conduct of the Earl of Shrewsbury

The House of Lords Conduct Committee has today published a report on the conduct of the Earl of Shrewsbury.

In its report the Conduct Committee uphold findings by the independent Commissioner for Standards that Lord Shrewsbury breached the House of Lords Code of Conduct by using a rail season ticket paid for by the House for non-parliamentary travel to attend a business meeting on 17 January 2024, and by claiming car mileage for journeys he did not make.

The Conduct Committee upholds the Commissioner for Standards' recommendation that Lord Shrewsbury should be suspended from the House of Lords for two weeks.

In his report the independent Commissioner for Standards cleared the Earl of Shrewsbury of allegations relating to the provision of parliamentary services in exchange for payment and a failure to declare interests when asking written parliamentary questions.

The report requires the agreement of the House before coming into force. It is expected the report will be put to the House in February.
