Data published by Transport for London (TfL) shows that there are
over 400 km of cycle lanes in London and an average of 1.2
million daily cycle journeys. Comparatively, there are
approximately 300 km of bus lanes and 5 million daily bus
journeys. What factors does TfL consider when deciding where and
how to allocate bus lanes and cycle lanes?
The Mayor's Transport Strategy (MTS) states that 75 per cent of
congestion is caused by too high demand for limited street space,
and that this congestion cannot be solved through traffic
management alone.[1]
Tomorrow, as part of its investigation into road
space, driving and congestion, the London Assembly
Transport Committee will put evidence it has heard
throughout this investigation to TfL. The Committee will also ask
TfL about whether measures to improve buses are going to have a
positive impact on bus journey times.
The guests are:
-
Christina Calderato, Director of Transport
Strategy and Policy, TfL
-
Carl Eddleston, Director of Streets and
Network Operations, TfL
The meeting will take place on Wednesday 21 January
at 10am in the Chamber at City Hall,
Kamal Chunchie Way, E16 1ZE.
Media and members of the public are invited to
attend.
