Citizenship scholar to be quizzed on settlement, citizenship and integration

Tomorrow the House of Lords Justice and Home Affairs Committee will hold its sixth evidence session for its inquiry into settlement, citizenship, and integration.

The session will focus on matters relating to the citizenship process, including the Life in the UK Test, the intention behind the Government's policy proposals, the ability of the Home Office to oversee these proposals, and integration strategies in the UK. 

Giving evidence will be: 

• Professor Thom Brooks, Chair in Law, Ethics and Government at Durham University 

Possible questions include: 

• Will the Government proposals on immigration and asylum increase the control they actually have on people coming to the UK? 

• Do immigration, integration, and citizenship matters fit in well at the Home Office? 

• Is citizenship more important to the individual, society, or the state? 

• What data should we be collecting on the migrant experience and how de we ensure it informs both policy and the public? 

• What are the main issues with the Life in the UK Test and how should it be refreshed?
