UK-US trade: implications of General Terms for UK-US Economic Prosperity Deal - Peers to question witnesses

The House of Lords International Agreements Committee will tomorrow be taking evidence from academic experts on the implications of the General Terms for the US-UK Economic Prosperity Deal.  

The session will take place at 2:00pm on Tuesday 8 July 2025 and can be followed live on Parliament TV. 

Giving evidence will be: 

• Professor Kathleen Claussen, Anne Fleming Research Professor & Professor of Law, Georgetown University Law Center  

• Professor David Bailey, Professor of Business Economics, University of Birmingham  

• Professor Emily Lydgate, Professor of Law, University of Sussex and Co-Director of UK Trade Policy Observatory 

Topics the session will focus on include: 

• How recent developments in US trade policy has shaped the external trade policy environment facing the UK 

• The main benefits and limitations of the ‘General Terms for the EPD' 

• The UK Government's approach to trade with the US in the context of the recently launched UK trade strategy and industrial strategy 

• The degree of certainty or commercial stability for UK businesses as a result of the deal 

• Key opportunities and challenges for the UK in any future negotiations with the US
