Education and transitions into adulthood - Autism Act 2009 committee to hear evidence

The House of Lords Autism Act 2009 Committee will be hearing from witnesses with lived experience about improving access to education and transitions to adulthood for autistic children and young people. 

The session will take place on Monday 12 May at 2:45pm and can be followed live on parliamentlive.tv 

Giving evidence will be: 

• Tania Tirraoro, Founder/Co-Director, Special Needs Jungle Ltd  

• Alice Willans, Chair, Ambitious About Autism Youth Council  

• Anita Harrington (parent) 

Questions the committee is likely to ask include: 

• What impact (if any) has the Government's autism strategy for 2021 to 2026 had on improving access to education and transitions to adulthood for autistic children and young people? 

• What are the main barriers to access to education for autistic children and young people? 

• How could mainstream schools and other educational settings be made more inclusive for autistic children and young people? 

• What are the main barriers to autistic children and young people getting the support they need with transitions to adulthood? 

• Following the end of the autism strategy for 2021 to 2026, what should the Government do to improve transitions to adulthood for autistic children and young people?
