Evidence session
Innovation, growth and the
regions
Tuesday 6 May, 2.30pm, Committee Room 8, Palace of
Westminster
The Science, Innovation and Technology Committee will question
academics and the British Business Bank (BBB) in the next session
of its inquiry into innovation,
growth and the regions.
In the first panel, the cross-party committee will talk to
experts and academics about the UK's innovation ecosystem and how
it compares to other countries. They may discuss the UK's
position within the global innovation landscape, and how its
reputation as a hub for scientific knowledge can be better
translated into innovation. MPs could also seek views on how the
UK's innovation strategies and private sector investment compare
to those of other countries.
In the second panel, MPs will question the BBB on its work
supporting regional growth and innovation-led businesses.
Questions could investigate how the BBB's growth programmes have
contributed to the UK's position as a global leader in science
and tech, and how effectively it is at attracting investment into
the UK.
The committee may also explore the BBB's impact across the
regions and inequalities in those receiving investment, including
how the Bank supports female entrepreneurs and those outside
major financial hubs.
