Social mobility inquiry explores policies and initiatives in North East England

The House of Lords Social Mobility Policy Committee continues its inquiry on Thursday 1 May by focussing on regional initiatives and the important role place plays in reducing barriers to social mobility.  

The Committee will hear from academics about social mobility policies and initiatives in the North East of England, which has been highlighted by the Social Mobility Commission as having particularly low rates of social mobility.

The session begins at 10.05am in in Committee Room 3, Palace of Westminster and can be followed live or afterwards and can be watched live or afterwards on Parliament TV.

Giving evidence will be:

Members are expected to ask questions on:

• barriers to social mobility in the North East of England;
• partnership work to reduce barriers to social mobility in the region;
• the role employers, businesses and universities play in improving social mobility;
• how recent infrastructure developments in the North East have improved social mobility in the region;
• challenges of ensuring consistent policies in rural and urban areas.
