Minister for Agriculture comments on latest Wildlife Crime in Scotland statistics

Latest statistics on wildlife crime in Scotland were published today by the Chief Statistician for Scotland. 

Recorded wildlife crime offences were down by 23%, from 286 offences in 2021-22 to 220 offences in 2022-23, bringing recorded wildlife crime back close to pre-pandemic levels.

Agriculture Minister Jim Fairlie said:

“I am pleased to see a decrease of 23% in recorded wildlife offences and extend my thanks to Police Scotland's Wildlife Crime Unit as well as our dedicated partner agencies who work together to bring perpetrators to justice.

“Through strong legislation, increased enforcement and preventative measures Scotland is making significant strides in safeguarding our natural heritage and diverse wildlife.

“Despite the progress we must remain vigilant in tackling the challenge of wildlife crime to protect our environment and the safeguard all of Scotland's species.”
