Correspondence between EFRA Committee and the Defra Secretary

The EFRA Committee today published two pieces of correspondence between the Committee and the Defra Secretary.

One of these is a letter from the Committee to Steve Reed following the Committee's evidence session with Defra officials last week. 

This letter addresses the strategy required to improve confidence for the farming sector, and covers the issues of Environmental Land Management schemes, productivity grants and businesses' viability as a result of the agricultural transition. 

Commenting on last week's EFRA session, the Chair says, “it is my Committee's view that Departmental officials were not sufficiently alive to the urgency of providing certainty for farmers who must necessarily plan many years ahead.” 

The other piece of correspondence the Committee has published today is a letter received from the Defra Secretary, which follows up on his appearance before EFRA in November.
