MPs will hold an evidence session exploring the conditions facing
Israeli NGOs helping to deliver aid in the Occupied Palestinian
Territory.
During the session, MPs on the International Development
Committee are likely to ask the organisations how the NGOs will
be affected if Israel's proposed ban on UNRWA comes into force
early next year.
The Chair of the Committee recently wrote to UK
Foreign Secretary , stating that such a ban would
lead to “an immediate, potentially irreparable, degradation in
the living conditions of Palestinians.”
MPs may also ask whether the NGOs represented have faced any
intimidation or censorship in delivering their work across Gaza
and the West Bank, and what further support they would like to
see from the international community.
Although Israel agreed a ceasefire with Lebanon this week, the
humanitarian situation remains critical in the Occupied
Palestinian Territories. Joyce Msuya, the UN's acting head of
emergency relief, recently warned that
“conditions of life across Gaza are unfit for human survival”.
Meanwhile, recent months have seen violence, evictions and
demolitions in the West Bank increase significantly. Between 7
October 2023 and 31 October 2024, 1,843 structures were
demolished, of which 44% were inhabited residential properties,
displacing 929 people.
