TBI Director of Health Policy Dr Charlotte Refsum
said:
“We welcome the government's announcement on healthcare reform
which reflect many of the proposals put forward by TBI in recent
months. A Digital Health Record (DHR), shared data controllership
with GPs and expanded use of the NHS app will all enable better
healthcare.
“A DHR will help to reimagine the way we deliver Primary Care
services. People are complex and varied and their health needs
are too. Primary Care needs to do what retail did 20 years ago
and start to segment and stratify their population, tailoring the
Primary Care offer to different cohorts based on wants and needs.
It no longer makes sense to offer everyone the same 10 minute
appointment to talk about one problem only. A Digital Health
Record can help do that.
“There are places in the UK that do this brilliantly already -
but it is by no means yet the norm. We should build on these
examples of best practice - in the UK and abroad - to help meet
people where they are: online, at home and on the high street -
as well as in clinic.
“Only then will we be able to deliver on the three shifts that
the Health Secretary is right to advocate for: treatment to
prevention, hospital to community and analogue to digital.”
